Paul, Peters, & Rubio Bipartisan Bill to Create One Deadline to Apply for FEMA Disaster Assistance Programs for Individuals Advances in the Senate

WASHINGTON, DC – Bipartisan legislation authored by U.S. Senators Rand Paul (R-KY), Gary Peters (D-MI), and Marco Rubio (R-FL) to create one application deadline for two Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) programs that individuals use for federal disaster assistance has advanced in the Senate. FEMA’s Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) and Individuals and Household Program (IHP) currently have different deadlines, which can cause confusion for disaster survivors who may have trouble tracking when they need to apply for each program. The senators’ bipartisan legislation would ensure these programs have the same deadline to reduce the burden on people who need them to rebuild their lives after disasters. The bill was approved by the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee where Paul serves as Ranking Member and Peters serves as Chair. It now moves to the full Senate for consideration.

Their ability to manage and sell off unnecessary real estate inventory has been stymied by bureaucracy and agency resistance, resulting in the Board unable to meet its sale goals year after year. The friction between the agencies has cost the taxpayers billions of dollars, and without effective reform, taxpayer dollars will continue to be wasted on maintaining these unused real estate assets.

Paul, Peters, and Lankford Bipartisan Bill to Simplify Application Process for Federal Disaster Assistance Advances from Committee

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Bipartisan legislation authored by U.S. Senators Rand Paul (R-KY), Gary Peters (D-MI), and James Lankford (R-OK) to simplify the application process for federal disaster recovery assistance has advanced out of committee. The legislation would require the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to establish a universal application across federal agencies for disaster survivors who are seeking federal assistance to recover from hurricanes, floods, wildfires, and more. The senators’ legislation would significantly streamline this process to reduce the burden on disaster survivors. The bill was advanced by the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, where Paul serves as Ranking Member and Peters serves as Chair.
