BOWLING GREEN, KY – Today, U.S. Senator Rand Paul announced the hiring of Charlie Borders to serve in a new position on his Kentucky staff dedicated to serving the people of Northeastern Kentucky. Mr. Borders will be serving as the Northeastern Kentucky field representative for Sen. Paul. His territory includes Bracken, Mason, Lewis, Greenup, Robertson, Fleming, Carter, Boyd, Bath, Rowan, Elliot, Lawrence, Montgomery, Menifee, and Morgan counties.
 
Mr. Borders, a Kentucky native, is a former State Senator and was elected in 1990 to represent the 18th Senatorial District. He served until retiring in 2009 and being appointed Commissioner of the Kentucky Public Service Commission. In 2014, he was appointed by Senate President Robert Stivers to serve as a member of the Legislative Ethics Commission. During his tenure as State Senator he held many positions, including Minority Whip, Minority and Majority Caucus Chairman, and Chairman of the Appropriations and Revenue Committee.
 
“I am extremely pleased to join Senator Paul and the team he has assembled in looking out for the needs and well being of all Kentuckians. It is especially gratifying that the region I will be covering for Senator Paul will include all the counties that I had the pleasure of serving for nearly two decades as a member of the Kentucky State Senate,” Mr. Borders said.
 
Mr. Borders attended Ashland Community College and Morehead State University, and earned his MBA from Morehead State University in 1977.
 
Sen. Paul has remained very active in this region, particularly in dealing with the issues surrounding the AK Steel plant, and is pleased to add another staff member to support this region of Kentucky.
