WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday afternoon, U.S. Senator Rand Paul introduced two Kentucky-specific amendments to the Natural Resources Management Act (S.47), a bill that covers issues affecting federal lands. After hearing from Kentuckians, who brought up specific concerns about access to waterways and land sales in the areas near Daniel Boone National Forest, he introduced two amendments to address their concerns.
 
“The federal government has no business standing in the way of Kentuckians accessing their own natural resources, and I’ve been proud to lead the charge on their behalf,” said Sen. Paul. “These amendments would provide a much-needed opportunity to increase tourism and support new economic growth in the counties surrounding Daniel Boone National Forest and the Lake Cumberland area.”
 
Access to Waterways in the Daniel Boone National Forest (#140)

This amendment would allow for the access of waterways feeding into Lake Cumberland through the Daniel Boone National Forest in Rockcastle County, Pulaski County, Laurel County, Wayne County, McCreary County, and Whitley County, Kentucky, for the purpose of installing docks, boat slips, and marinas. 
 
Sale of Certain National Forest System Land in the Daniel Boone National Forest (#141)

This amendment would authorize the sale of land, at fair market value, along U.S. Highway 27 from Burnside, Kentucky, through the Daniel Boone National Forest to the point US 27 crosses into Tennessee, for the purpose of developing the land.
