WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Rand Paul announced he is introducing a Senate resolution calling for America’s withdrawal from the Paris Agreement, which the Obama Administration formally entered into in September 2016.
Experts predict that by the year 2040, the agreement could cost the American economy up to 6.5 million jobs and nearly $3 trillion in Gross Domestic Product,[1] with no guarantee of significantly reducing the global temperature by 2100.[2]
“We are being asked to place more regulatory burdens on American businesses and our economy,” said Dr. Paul. “Despite the high cost, the agreement will do little to solve environmental challenges. I support a path forward that protects both our jobs and our environment instead of sacrificing one for the other.”
Dr. Paul’s resolution is cosponsored by Senators Inhofe (R-OK), Wicker (R-MS), Risch (R-ID), Enzi (R-WY), and Hatch (R-UT). Rep. David McKinley (R-WV) has introduced companion legislation (H. Con. Res. 55) in the U.S. House of Representatives.
